Lead Mechanical Engineer - HVAC

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Mechanical Engineer - HVAC to guide their team in Stellenbosch . This leadership position is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of high-performance HVAC systems for commercial and industrial applications. You will oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring optimal system design, energy efficiency, and compliance with building codes and standards. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with expertise in thermal comfort, psychrometrics, and building systems integration, capable of leading a team and delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of complex HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, and distribution networks.
• Perform load calculations, system sizing, and energy modeling to optimize system performance and efficiency.
• Develop detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, and submittals.
• Oversee HVAC project execution, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and design staff.
• Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure integrated building system design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on HVAC.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in HVAC design and project management.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is highly desirable.
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and energy efficiency regulations.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, TRACE 700, AutoCAD MEP).
• Strong leadership, communication, and client management skills.
