Mine Planning Engineer - Resource Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Mine Planning Engineer specializing in resource development for their operations in Port Elizabeth . This role is integral to long-term strategic planning, ensuring the efficient and sustainable extraction of mineral resources. You will be responsible for developing detailed mine plans, optimizing production schedules, and collaborating with geology and operations teams to maximize value. The position requires a forward-thinking engineer who can balance technical expertise with strategic vision, operating within a hybrid framework that supports both collaborative on-site work and focused remote analysis and modeling.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans, including open-pit designs and production schedules.
• Conduct geotechnical assessments and feasibility studies to support mine development.
• Utilise mine planning software to model ore bodies, design pits, and plan infrastructure.
• Collaborate with geologists to define resource models and reconciliation processes.
• Perform economic evaluations and sensitivity analyses for proposed mine plans.
• Ensure plans comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine planning, preferably in open-pit operations.
• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or Surpac.
• Strong understanding of geostatistics, geotechnical engineering, and mine economics.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment.
