About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their operational team in Vereeniging. This critical role ensures the health and safety of personnel by designing, implementing, and monitoring effective mine ventilation systems. You will be responsible for maintaining optimal air quality, temperature, and pressure within the underground environment, thereby preventing hazards associated with dust, gases, and heat. This position requires a proactive approach to safety and a deep understanding of mine ventilation principles and regulations within the context of heavy industry in Gauteng.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, install, and maintain mine ventilation networks, including fans, ducting, and auxiliary systems.
- Conduct regular air quality monitoring and analysis to ensure compliance with occupational exposure limits.
- Develop and implement strategies for controlling heat stress, dust, and noxious gases underground.
- Perform diagnostic tests on ventilation systems and troubleshoot any malfunctions.
- Collaborate with safety officers and mine management to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of ventilation surveys, system performance, and compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mining Engineering with a specialization in Ventilation.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of mine ventilation principles, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, Minescape).
- Familiarity with South African mining regulations pertaining to ventilation and occupational hygiene.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a demanding environment.
