Process Chemist

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Process Chemist to join their research and development and production support team in Stellenbosch . You will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical processes for manufacturing. This role demands a deep understanding of chemical reactions, process safety, and analytical techniques, playing a vital role in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and quality of chemical production. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to innovation, contributing to the advancement of our client's product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes.
• Conduct laboratory-scale experiments and pilot plant trials to validate and scale up processes.
• Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement in yield, purity, and efficiency.
• Ensure all chemical processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues and provide technical support to the production team.
• Document research findings, process parameters, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field with a focus on organic or process chemistry.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in process development within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong knowledge of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and chemical engineering principles.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and NMR.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
