Mine Planning Engineer - Open Pit

About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and experienced Mine Planning Engineer to lead the planning and scheduling of their open-pit mining operations in Vereeniging . This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective extraction of resources, aligning with the company's long-term strategic objectives. You will be responsible for developing integrated mine plans, optimizing resource utilization, and collaborating with various departments to achieve production targets. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed short-term and long-term open-pit mine plans , including mine sequencing, production scheduling, and equipment utilization.
• Conduct mine design work, including pit shell optimization, haul road design, and dump planning.
• Perform geological block modeling and resource estimation integration into mine plans.
• Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, productivity improvement, and enhanced safety.
• Collaborate with operations, geology, and engineering teams to ensure plans are practical and achievable.
• Prepare technical reports, economic evaluations, and presentations for management and stakeholders regarding mine plans and performance.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and mining legislation .

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine planning and design, with a strong focus on open-pit operations .
• Proficiency in mine planning software such as Surpac, Minesight, or Deswik.
• Solid understanding of mine surveying, geology, and ore body modeling .
• Experience with optimizing pit designs and production schedules for economic benefit.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
