Principal Scientist - Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK)

About the Role

Our client, a leading biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to lead their Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team in Mahikeng . This senior role is pivotal in guiding the preclinical development of new drug candidates, ensuring they possess favorable ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) properties. You will drive critical studies, provide expert interpretation, and collaborate across disciplines to advance compounds from discovery into clinical development, playing a key role in shaping the future of their therapeutic pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, oversee, and interpret in vitro and in vivo DMPK studies for small molecule drug candidates.
• Develop and validate bioanalytical methods for quantifying drugs and metabolites in biological matrices.
• Utilize pharmacokinetic modeling and simulation tools to predict human pharmacokinetics and optimize dosing strategies.
• Collaborate closely with discovery chemistry, toxicology, and clinical pharmacology teams to provide integrated DMPK support.
• Author regulatory documents (e.g., IND filings) and present key findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of the latest advances in DMPK science and contribute to the strategic direction of the department.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in DMPK within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proven expertise in bioanalytical method development (LC-MS/MS) and pharmacokinetic analysis.
• Strong understanding of drug metabolism pathways, transporter interactions, and factors influencing drug disposition.
• Experience with regulatory guidelines relevant to DMPK and non‑clinical drug development.
• Excellent scientific leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
