Lead Geologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Geologist to join their remote-first team, supporting operations in the Free State region. This crucial role involves the geological assessment and characterization of subsurface assets critical to the Oil & Gas industry. You will be responsible for interpreting seismic data, geological models, and well logs to identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon reserves. This position requires exceptional analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with a distributed team of engineers and geoscientists. The role emphasizes remote collaboration and innovative data interpretation techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geological evaluation of exploration and development opportunities, including prospect identification and risking.


• Develop and refine 3D geological models using advanced interpretation software.


• Analyze seismic, well log, and core data to understand subsurface stratigraphy and structure.


• Collaborate closely with reservoir and petroleum engineers to define well targets and development strategies.


• Prepare detailed geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for project go/no-go decisions.


• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to the development of geological best practices.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.


• A minimum of 12 years of experience in exploration geology, with a strong emphasis on structural geology and sedimentology.


• Expertise in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom) and other geological modeling tools.


• Proven track record in reserve estimation and resource assessment within the Oil & Gas sector.


• Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.


• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote team environment and manage geological workflows.
