Livestock Manager - Cattle Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Livestock Manager to lead their extensive cattle operations in the Welkom, Free State region. This role is integral to ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of the herd, managing all aspects of cattle farming from breeding to market readiness. You will oversee a dedicated team, implement best practices in animal husbandry, and manage grazing lands and feed programs. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily care, feeding, and health management of the cattle herd.
• Develop and implement breeding programs to enhance herd genetics and productivity.
• Monitor animal health, administer treatments, and liaise with veterinarians for specialized care.
• Manage grazing rotations and ensure adequate feed supplies throughout the year.
• Supervise and train livestock handlers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
• Maintain records related to herd size, health, breeding, and production.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale cattle operations.
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, breeding, and disease prevention in cattle.
• Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
• Familiarity with livestock management software and record-keeping systems.
• A qualification in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
