Assistant Retail Buyer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an analytical and trend-aware Assistant Retail Buyer to join their Merchandising team, based in a hybrid capacity in Rustenburg . This role supports the senior buying team in sourcing, selecting, and purchasing merchandise for their retail stores. You will play a vital part in identifying product opportunities, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring the right products are in the right stores at the right time. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of the retail market and consumer trends to contribute to the company's product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the selection and purchasing of merchandise according to seasonal trends and sales forecasts.
• Research market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to identify new product opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms and prices to achieve cost efficiencies.
• Collaborate with the planning and allocation teams to ensure timely delivery and optimal stock levels.
• Analyze sales performance data and provide reports on product profitability and sell-through rates.
• Participate in product development, sample review, and quality control processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, Fashion, or a related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or a related analytical role.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with suppliers.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with retail management or buying software.
• A keen sense of fashion, product, and an understanding of the retail landscape in Rustenburg and beyond.
