About the Role
Our client seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Cape Town. This role focuses on assessing ground conditions and providing expert recommendations for a range of construction and development projects along the Western Cape coastline. You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and safety of foundations, slopes, and subterranean structures by conducting detailed site investigations and analyses. This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist engineer to contribute to significant developments in a beautiful and challenging environment, working closely with site teams and project managers to overcome unique geotechnical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive site investigations, including soil sampling, borehole drilling, and in-situ testing.
- Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine engineering properties and potential hazards.
- Design foundations, retaining walls, and slope stabilization measures appropriate for coastal conditions.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical investigation reports, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical support to construction teams during the implementation phase, overseeing earthworks and foundation construction.
- Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with relevant South African engineering standards and building regulations applicable to Cape Town.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical investigations and design.
- Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio).
- Experience with coastal geotechnical challenges, including erosion and soil liquefaction potential.
- Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and site personnel in Cape Town.
