Senior Structural Engineer - Building Design

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join their established team based in Port Elizabeth. You will be responsible for the structural design and analysis of a wide range of building projects, from commercial and residential to industrial facilities. This role requires a meticulous approach to design, a deep understanding of building codes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, contractors, and project stakeholders. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, stability, and longevity of the structures we design, contributing significantly to the built environment of the Eastern Cape, working within a supportive and collaborative office setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis of new building projects and renovations, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and calculation reports for architectural and construction teams.
• Conduct site inspections during construction to monitor progress and address any structural issues that may arise.
• Collaborate closely with architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless project integration.
• Perform complex structural calculations using advanced software for a variety of materials including steel, concrete, and masonry.
• Review shop drawings and respond to contractor queries during the construction phase.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the structural department.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural specialization.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in structural engineering design for buildings.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Prokon).
• In-depth knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) for structural design.
• Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
