Lead Automotive Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a pioneering automotive technology company based in Stellenbosch , seeks an experienced Lead Automotive Systems Engineer to guide their vehicle integration and development efforts. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, integration, and validation of complex automotive systems, ensuring seamless functionality and performance across various vehicle platforms. This hybrid role requires strong technical leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of automotive engineering principles. You will lead a team of talented engineers, driving innovation and ensuring the successful delivery of cutting-edge automotive solutions for the market in the Western Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the definition, design, and architecture of integrated automotive systems, encompassing powertrain, chassis, electrical, and software components.
• Oversee the system integration process, ensuring all subsystems work harmoniously and meet specified performance requirements.
• Develop and execute comprehensive system validation and verification plans, including simulation, bench testing, and vehicle testing.
• Manage system requirements throughout the product lifecycle, from conception to production release.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of automotive systems engineers.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and product management, to achieve project goals.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related automotive field.
• Extensive experience in automotive systems engineering, with a proven track record in leading complex projects.
• Deep knowledge of vehicle dynamics, powertrain control, electrical architecture, and embedded software integration.
• Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, SysML, requirements management software).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams.
• Experience with hybrid or electric vehicle systems is a significant advantage.
