About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and certified Fiber Optic Splicer to join their expanding network deployment team in Richards Bay . This role is fundamental to building and maintaining the fiber optic infrastructure essential for high-speed internet and telecommunications services. You will be responsible for expertly splicing fiber optic cables, ensuring minimal signal loss and maximum network integrity. This is a hands‑on position for an individual who takes pride in precision work and plays a crucial role in connecting communities and businesses through advanced fiber technology in the KwaZulu‑Natal region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing of various types of fiber optic cables with high precision.
- Conduct testing and verification of splices using optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR) and other testing equipment.
- Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks, including aerial and underground deployments.
- Identify and troubleshoot fiber optic network faults and disruptions.
- Accurately document splicing records, test results, and network layouts.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and industry standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Certification in fiber optic splicing (e.g., FOA CFOT, FSST) is mandatory.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining splicing machines and OTDRs.
- Knowledge of different fiber optic cable types, connectors, and termination techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber optic network designs and maps.
- Physical fitness for working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing manual labor.
