About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join the culinary team of a busy catering operation in Pretoria . As second-in-command to the Head Chef, you will play a vital role in daily kitchen management, food preparation, and staff supervision. This position requires a strong understanding of culinary techniques, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead by example in a demanding environment. You will contribute to creating memorable dining experiences for a wide range of events, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency in the kitchen, while upholding the company's reputation for culinary excellence in Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in menu planning, recipe development, and food costing.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating, ensuring adherence to recipes and standards.
• Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and training.
• Manage inventory, ordering of supplies, and ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment, complying with all health and safety regulations.
• Step in to manage the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sous Chef or a senior line cook in a comparable establishment.
• Proficiency in a wide range of culinary techniques and cooking methods.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Relevant culinary qualifications or certifications are preferred.
