Lead Bioinformatician

Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Bioinformatician to spearhead the computational analysis division within their scientific research department in Tembisa . This senior position involves developing and implementing advanced computational strategies to analyze large-scale genomic and proteomic datasets, supporting critical research initiatives. You will guide a team of bioinformaticians, foster innovation in data analysis pipelines, and collaborate with cross-functional research teams to derive meaningful biological insights. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and maintain scalable bioinformatic pipelines for next-generation sequencing data analysis.
• Lead and mentor a team of bioinformaticians, assigning tasks and overseeing project progress.
• Collaborate with biologists and other scientists to design experiments and interpret complex biological datasets.
• Implement cutting-edge algorithms and statistical methods for genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data analysis.
• Manage and curate large biological databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for research purposes.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Extensive experience (7+ years) in bioinformatics, with a proven track record of leading projects.
• Strong programming skills in Python, R, and/or Perl, with experience in shell scripting.
• Proficiency in utilizing high-performance computing (HPC) environments and cloud platforms.
• Deep understanding of statistical genetics, population genetics, and genomic data analysis methodologies.
