Child Protection Social Worker

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protection Social Worker to join their essential services team in Richards Bay . This critical role focuses on safeguarding the well-being of children, responding to reports of abuse and neglect, and ensuring children are placed in safe and supportive environments. You will conduct investigations, provide crisis intervention, and collaborate closely with families, legal services, and community partners to protect vulnerable children. This position demands a strong commitment to child welfare, resilience, and excellent professional judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate allegations of child abuse, neglect, and endangerment, ensuring child safety as the priority.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and support to children and families in distress.
• Develop and implement child protection plans, including foster care placements when necessary.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, courts, and other agencies to ensure comprehensive child protection.
• Conduct home visits and interviews with children, families, and relevant stakeholders.
• Prepare detailed case reports and court documentation, providing expert testimony when required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
• Registered with the SACSSP and holding a valid practice number.
• Substantial experience in child protection services and statutory social work.
• In-depth knowledge of child welfare laws and intervention strategies in KwaZulu-Natal .
• Strong assessment, interviewing, and report-writing skills.
• Resilience, emotional maturity, and the ability to handle sensitive and traumatic situations effectively.
