About the Role

Our client is seeking an elite Head of Sports Performance with a specialization in Rugby to lead their high-performance programs in Stellenbosch. This senior role involves the strategic development and implementation of comprehensive physical conditioning, injury prevention, and athlete welfare strategies for elite rugby players. You will work closely with coaching staff, medical teams, and sports scientists to optimize player development and ensure peak performance throughout the season. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in elite sports conditioning, a deep understanding of rugby-specific physical demands, and exceptional leadership qualities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the sports performance department, including strength and conditioning, injury rehabilitation, and athlete nutrition.
  • Design and implement periodized training programs tailored to the specific needs of rugby players across different positions and skill levels.
  • Conduct performance testing and analysis to monitor athlete progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Mentor and manage the sports performance coaching staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑achieving team environment.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in sports science and coaching methodologies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in sports performance coaching and management, with a significant focus on elite‑level rugby.
  • Accreditation with a recognized sports science or coaching body (e.g., CSCS, UKSCA).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful athlete development programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
