Geotechnical Engineer - Mining and Construction

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Rustenburg , a key hub for the mining industry. This role involves providing expert geotechnical services for both mining operations and civil construction projects. You will be responsible for assessing ground conditions, designing foundations, slope stability analysis, and managing geotechnical risks. This is a crucial position for ensuring the safety and efficiency of large-scale engineering endeavors in a region known for its extensive mineral resources and ongoing development, contributing directly to the success and safety of complex engineering undertakings.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including soil sampling, testing, and analysis for mining and construction projects.
• Perform geotechnical analyses for foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks.
• Develop geotechnical design reports, recommendations, and mitigation strategies.
• Oversee drilling and site investigation programs, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
• Collaborate with geologists, mining engineers, and construction teams to address geotechnical challenges.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations relevant to geotechnical engineering practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations and design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software and data analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology.
• Experience with mining-related geotechnical challenges is a significant advantage.
• Ability to work effectively on-site and manage field investigations in the North West province.
