Marine Mechanic

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Marine Mechanic to join their busy service center in Mossel Bay . This role involves the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of marine engines and associated systems for yachts, fishing vessels, and other watercraft. You will be responsible for ensuring that all vessels are in optimal working condition, prioritizing safety and performance on the water. The ideal candidate has a strong background in marine mechanics, excellent diagnostic skills, and a passion for the maritime industry. This is a hands-on position that requires physical dexterity and the ability to work in a dynamic, often demanding, dockside environment, contributing to the smooth operation of local maritime activities and recreational boating.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair various types of marine engines, including inboard, outboard, and diesel engines.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups on marine propulsion systems.
• Conduct diagnostics and repairs on marine electrical systems , fuel systems, and hydraulic controls.
• Overhaul and rebuild engines and other marine components as needed.
• Test repaired systems and equipment to ensure they function correctly and meet performance standards.
• Maintain detailed service records and manage parts inventory for repair jobs.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Marine Mechanic or similar role with extensive knowledge of marine engines and systems.
• Strong diagnostic skills and proficiency with specialized marine tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engine schematics and service manuals.
• Experience with both gasoline and diesel marine engines is essential.
• A commitment to quality workmanship and adherence to safety procedures.
• Physical ability to work in demanding conditions, including confined spaces and elevated platforms.
