Job description
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Mine Ventilation Engineer to contribute to their operations in Mossel Bay . This role balances on-site project assessment with remote analysis and design, ensuring optimal underground mine ventilation systems. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring ventilation networks to maintain safe and healthy working conditions, control dust and gas levels, and manage thermal environments. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and effective collaboration within a hybrid work structure to support our mining endeavors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize mine ventilation systems, including fan selection, ducting, and air distribution strategies for underground mines.
- Conduct site visits for data collection, system assessments, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Perform airflow and thermal modeling using specialized ventilation software.
- Develop and implement strategies for dust control, gas monitoring, and overall air quality management.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to mine ventilation.
- Collaborate with mine planning, production, and safety departments to integrate ventilation requirements into overall mine operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience specifically in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in underground mining.
- Proficiency in mine ventilation modeling software (e.g., VENTSIM, VnetPC).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and air quality principles.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills.
