Senior Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Process Chemist to join their innovative chemical development team in Paarl . This role is pivotal in scaling up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and eventually to commercial production. You will be responsible for optimizing reaction conditions, ensuring process safety, and developing robust, cost-effective manufacturing methods. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale up chemical synthesis processes for manufacturing.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement necessary controls to ensure safe operations.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues encountered during process development and scale-up.
• Characterize intermediates and final products using appropriate analytical techniques.
• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to ensure smooth technology transfer.
• Prepare detailed process documentation, including batch records and validation reports.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on process chemistry.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process development and scale-up.
• Strong understanding of organic chemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) principles and hazard analysis.
• Proficiency with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, and spectroscopy.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills for effective teamwork in Paarl .
