Industrial Engineer - Facility Design & Layout

About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled Industrial Engineer to focus on facility design and layout in their operations in Polokwane. This role is critical for ensuring that our client's physical spaces are optimized for maximum efficiency, safety, and productivity. You will be responsible for analyzing workflow requirements, designing effective facility layouts, and implementing material handling systems that support seamless operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ergonomics, space planning, and operational flow, combined with the ability to translate complex operational needs into practical, efficient physical designs, contributing to improved overall performance and reduced operational friction.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze operational requirements and workflow patterns to develop optimal facility layouts.
• Design and implement efficient material handling systems, including conveyor belts, AGVs, and storage solutions.
• Utilize CAD software to create detailed drawings and models of facility layouts and equipment placement.
• Collaborate with architects, construction teams, and operations managers to ensure designs meet functional and safety standards.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement improvements to enhance worker safety and comfort.
• Evaluate and recommend equipment upgrades or modifications to support operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in facility design, layout planning, or operations engineering.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for layout design.
• Strong understanding of ergonomics, material flow principles, and workplace safety standards.
• Experience with simulation tools for evaluating layout effectiveness is a plus.
• Excellent spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
