This role requires a hands‑on leader capable of maintaining exceptional service standards in a fast‑paced environment. Note that the position involves shift work, but that this group is very focussed on employee work‑life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Management: Recruit; train, mentor, and supervise bartenders and floor staff. Design weekly rosters and optimize floor coverage.
  • Stock & Inventory Control: Conduct regular stock takes, manage supplier orders, control waste, and implement strict anti-theft measures.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure full adherence to the South African Liquor Act, including verifying patron IDs, managing strict operating hours, and maintaining valid licensing requirements.
  • Customer Service: Maintain a welcoming atmosphere, resolve guest complaints efficiently, and drive customer loyalty.
  • Financial Administration: Manage daily cashups, track sales performance, handle safe drops, and assist in setting strategic drink pricing to optimize margins.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of proven experience in Bar Management or as a Senior Supervisor in a high-volume South African bar or restaurant hospitality environment.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, excellent problem-solving abilities, numerical accuracy for cashups, and effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of local beverage trends, cocktail preparation, beer, wine, and spirit pairing.
  • Systems: Knowledge of POS systems. Experience with Revel advantageous.
  • Qualifications: Valid National Senior Certificate (Matric). A hospitality management diploma or certificate is an advantage. Mixology certification preferred.
  • Clearances: Clean criminal record and clear credit history (due to financial and cash-handling responsibilities).

Remuneration & Working Hours

  • Salary: R12 000 - R15 000 per month (Negotiable based on experience).
  • Incentives: Participation in the tip share pool.
  • Working Hours: Shift work required. Must be available to work flexible hours, including late nights, weekends, and public holidays.
