Job Purpose
To undertake minor building maintenance, inspections and repairs at District Six Campus and otherdesignated CPUT buildings in accordance with job cards, instructions and applicable safetyrequirements. Work requiring statutory registrationor trade authorisation must be referred to appropriately authorised personnel.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent NQF qualification.
- At least five (5) years’ relevant building maintenance experience.
- Valid driver’s licence (compulsory)
ADVANTAGEOUS: Experience in a construction or institutional maintenance environment; basic job-cardsystemexperience.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Carry out minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and general building repairs withincompetence and authorisation
- Refer regulated electrical and other specialist work to authorised personnel.
- Inspect allocated buildings, identify defects and report safety and maintenance risks.
- Receive, prioritise, update and close job cards on the approved maintenance system, subject toverification by the foreman.
- Plan assigned daily work and communicate progress, delays and material requirements.
- Assist building users and direct contractors to authorised work locations.
- Maintain tools, equipment, housekeeping and safe working practices; report incidents andhazards.
- Support the maintenance team and perform related duties as may be assigned by the Foreman orMaintenance Manager.
- Practical fault identification and problem-solving.
- Knowledge of building fabric and minor maintenance methods.
- Safe use and care of hand and power tools.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and record work accurately.
- Good Communication & customer service skills
- Teamwork.
- Ability to work independently within delegated authority
- Ability to perform as part of a team
- Safety awareness and ability to recognise work requiring a qualified specialist.
