About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented Petroleum Geochemist to join their exploration and production team in Paarl, Western Cape . This role is vital for understanding the origin, migration, and accumulation of hydrocarbons within reservoirs. You will conduct detailed geochemical analyses on oils, gases, and source rocks to evaluate petroleum systems, characterize source rocks, and assess the maturity and emplacement of hydrocarbons. Your expertise will be crucial in de-risking exploration prospects and optimizing development strategies within the Oil & Gas industry , contributing essential scientific insights within a hybrid work environment that supports both laboratory work and analytical collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze geochemical data from source rocks, oils, and natural gases to characterize petroleum systems.
- Determine the maturity, migration pathways, and accumulation timing of hydrocarbons.
- Evaluate the quality and quantity of potential source rocks in exploration areas.
- Use geochemical data to constrain geological models and aid prospect evaluation.
- Conduct isotope geochemistry studies to understand fluid origins and interactions.
- Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers on integrated studies.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum geochemistry , preferably within the Oil & Gas exploration sector.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as GC-MS, Rock-Eval, and stable isotope analysis.
- Strong understanding of organic matter kinetics , hydrocarbon generation, and migration processes.
- Experience with geochemical modeling software.
- Excellent data interpretation and reporting skills.
