About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Higher Education Academic Advisor to guide students through their academic journeys at their campus in Polokwane. This essential role involves providing comprehensive support and advising on course selection, degree progression, academic policies, and career exploration. You will empower students to make informed decisions about their academic and future professional paths, helping them navigate challenges and achieve their educational goals. The ideal candidate is passionate about student success, possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and has a strong understanding of university systems and academic requirements, contributing to a positive and supportive student experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized academic advising to a caseload of students, assisting them with course planning and registration.
• Monitor student academic progress and intervene proactively to provide support and resources when needed.
• Educate students on university academic policies, procedures, and degree requirements.
• Assist students in exploring career options and connecting their academic pursuits with future goals.
• Facilitate workshops and information sessions on topics such as study skills, time management, and career readiness.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or a student support role within a higher education setting.
• Strong knowledge of university academic programs, policies, and student development theory.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
• Proficiency in using student information systems and advising software.
