Family Counsellor

About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled and empathetic Family Counsellor to provide support and guidance to families in Mossel Bay. This role involves facilitating communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening family relationships through evidence-based therapeutic approaches. You will work with families facing a variety of challenges, helping them to build resilience, improve dynamics, and foster a healthier home environment. This is an important role within the Western Cape community, dedicated to promoting family well-being and stability. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of family systems and effective counseling techniques, with a commitment to client-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments to understand family dynamics and presenting issues.
• Develop and implement tailored counseling strategies to address specific family challenges.
• Facilitate constructive communication and conflict resolution between family members.
• Provide a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their concerns.
• Offer guidance on parenting skills, relationship building, and stress management.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and accurate records of client sessions and progress.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.
• Registered as a professional counsellor or therapist with a relevant South African board.
• Proven experience in family counseling and mediating disputes.
• In-depth knowledge of family systems theory and therapeutic modalities.
• Excellent active listening, empathy, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage challenging client situations with professionalism and ethical integrity.
