Drilling Engineer - Onshore Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Drilling Engineer to manage onshore drilling operations from their offices in Tembisa. This role is pivotal in ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling campaigns, from planning through execution. You will be responsible for designing well plans, selecting appropriate equipment, and overseeing all aspects of the drilling process to meet production targets. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in drilling mechanics, fluid dynamics, and well control, and will thrive in a collaborative environment focused on achieving operational excellence in the Oil & Gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed drilling programs and well designs, including casing design, mud programs, and directional plans.
• Oversee rig operations, manage drilling crews, and ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
• Monitor drilling progress, analyze real-time data, and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance and mitigate risks.
• Manage the procurement of drilling equipment, services, and materials, ensuring cost control and quality.
• Conduct post-drill analysis and lessons learned sessions to improve future drilling operations.
• Coordinate with geological and reservoir engineering teams to ensure alignment with overall field development objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Drilling Engineer, with significant exposure to onshore operations.
• Proven experience in well planning, directional drilling, and managing drilling risks.
• Strong knowledge of drilling fluids, cementation, and wellbore stability principles.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices in the Oil & Gas sector.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
