Mine Manager - Underground Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Mine Manager to lead their underground operations remotely, overseeing activities in the vicinity of Upington. This senior leadership role is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational efficiency, safety, and profitability of the mine. You will set performance targets, manage budgets, foster a strong safety culture, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is a seasoned mining professional with a proven track record in underground mining leadership and a passion for driving operational excellence through a distributed team structure.

Key Responsibilities

• Overseeing all aspects of underground mine operations, including planning, production, maintenance, and safety.
• Developing and implementing strategic business plans and budgets for the mine.
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable mining, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Leading, motivating, and developing a team of mine professionals and supervisors.
• Implementing best practices in operational efficiency and cost management.
• Fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to rigorous safety standards.
• Liaising with senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• BSc/BEng in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, with advanced management qualifications preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
• Proven experience in managing complex underground mining projects and large operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of various underground mining methods and technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in remote team management.
• Excellent financial acumen and understanding of mine economics.
