ASSISTANT FINANCIAL MANAGER

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Financial Manager to join a prestigious hospitality group with properties in Somerset West and Plettenberg Bay.

This is a key finance role for someone who enjoys being involved in the detail, takes ownership of financial controls and reporting, and can confidently support the financial performance of multiple hospitality properties.

The successful candidate will be based at the group's Somerset West property and will oversee the financial operations of the two Plettenberg Bay properties, including regular travel to Plettenberg Bay.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the full day-to-day finance function for the Somerset West property.
• Oversee the finance functions of the two Plettenberg Bay properties.
• Manage creditors, debtors, guest accounts, deposits and OTA/agent commissions.
• Review daily cash-ups, card machine and bank reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Prepare accurate monthly management packs, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow and budget comparisons.
• Prepare weekly flash reports covering revenue, cash and key costs.
• Take ownership of food, beverage, guest amenities and other cost-of-sale controls.
• Conduct and reconcile monthly stock takes and monitor food and beverage cost percentages.
• Review purchasing, supplier pricing, wastage, breakages and complimentary items.
• Assist with annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cash-flow forecasting.
• Provide financial insight and support to management on pricing, staffing, capital expenditure and revenue opportunities.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure effective financial controls across all properties.
• Manage Sage One and ensure accurate integration with the property management system where applicable.
• Prepare VAT submissions and support PAYE, UIF and SDL compliance.
• Assist with year-end processes and external audits.
• Review payroll inputs, overtime, leave and service charge/gratuity distributions.
• Train and guide operational teams on cash handling, stock control and financial procedures.
• Supervise junior finance or administration staff where applicable.
• Travel to Plettenberg Bay for regular approximately 5-day working periods to oversee financial operations at both properties.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or Assistant Financial Manager role.
• At least 3 years’ experience within hospitality, preferably lodges, hotels, guest houses or resorts.
• Proven experience with month-end processes and management reporting.
• Strong experience in food and beverage cost control and stock takes.
• Experience with budgets, forecasting and cash-flow management.
• Multi-property experience will be advantageous.
• A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualification or progress towards SAIPA, CIMA or ACCA will be advantageous.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage One, Sempre, Excel and Google Sheets.
• A valid driver's licence.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A hands-on, proactive and commercially minded approach.

IMPORTANT LOCATION REQUIREMENT

This is an on-site Monday-Friday position based in Somerset West.

The successful candidate must reside in or be able to stay within the Helderberg vicinity. This is a non-negotiable requirement.

The role also requires regular travel to the group's Plettenberg Bay properties, approximately 5 days per month.

WHAT'S ON OFFER

• Salary: R35,000 - R45,000 per month, depending on experience
