Environmental Manager - Mining
About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Manager to lead environmental stewardship at their mining operations near Mossel Bay . This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive environmental programs to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies. You will play a critical role in minimizing the environmental impact of mining activities, promoting sustainable practices, and managing stakeholder relations concerning environmental matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of environmental regulations within the South African mining sector and a passion for environmental protection, contributing to responsible resource development in the Mossel Bay area. This role is essential for maintaining the company's social license to operate.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement environmental management plans and strategies for mining operations.
- Ensure compliance with all national and local environmental laws, regulations, and permits.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and develop mitigation measures.
- Monitor environmental performance, including water quality, air emissions, and waste management.
- Manage rehabilitation and closure planning for mine sites.
- Engage with regulatory bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders on environmental issues.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining industry.
- In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
- Experience in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and managing rehabilitation projects.
- Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work effectively in challenging site conditions and manage cross-functional teams.
