Mechanical Design Engineer - Consumer Electronics

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to their innovative consumer electronics division located in Port Elizabeth . This role involves designing and developing aesthetically pleasing, highly functional, and manufacturable mechanical aspects of new consumer products. You will be involved in the entire product development cycle, from initial concept sketches to final production support. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and detail-oriented engineer to make a tangible impact on products used by consumers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for consumer electronic devices, focusing on form, fit, and function.
• Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) to create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and assembly instructions.
• Work closely with industrial designers to translate aesthetic concepts into viable mechanical designs.
• Perform tolerance analysis, stress simulations , and material selection to ensure product durability and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing partners to optimize designs for mass production and cost efficiency.
• Conduct prototype testing and validation to verify design performance against specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within the consumer electronics industry.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a strong understanding of parametric modeling and assembly management.
• Experience with DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability/Assembly) principles.
• Knowledge of plastics, metal fabrication, and assembly processes common in consumer electronics.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment in Port Elizabeth .
