Job description

Help Local Governments Turn Records Management into Better Governance

At GovernmentFrameworks.com, we help local governments work smarter.

Our mission is simple: to improve governance through the use of modern technology and services.

Every day, we work with municipalities across Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand to modernise processes, improve information management, automate manual work, increase transparency, and help governments deliver better outcomes for their communities.

Good records management is an important part of that.

When information is properly classified, retained, secured, and accessible, local governments can operate more effectively, meet their governance and compliance obligations, and give both employees and communities better access to the information they need.

We're looking for an experienced Laserfiche Records Management Consultant who can bring together records and information management expertise with practical technology skills.

This is a fully remote position, with working hours aligned to North American business hours. Candidates must be comfortable working remotely and collaborating with clients and team members across multiple time zones.

This Isn’t Just About Managing Records

Successful records management takes more than creating a retention schedule.

We’re looking for someone who understands how good records governance needs to translate into systems that people can actually use.

Someone who can understand a client’s legislative, governance, and operational requirements, design the right records management approach, and then configure the technology to make it work in practice.

You’ll work with municipal and public-sector clients to develop classification schemes, retention schedules, disposition processes, metadata structures, security models, and records automation, while using Laserfiche Cloud to turn those requirements into practical solutions.

You’ll be involved throughout the solution lifecycle, from requirements gathering and solution design through configuration, migration, testing, implementation, and ongoing support.

If your natural instinct is to ask: "How should this information be governed, and how do we make the system enforce that in practice?" then you’ll probably thrive here.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

As a Laserfiche Records Management Consultant, you’ll take responsibility for designing and configuring records management solutions that are compliant, practical, scalable, and easy for our clients to use.

You’ll:

  • Work with Project Management and Customer Success teams to understand client records management governance and Laserfiche configuration requirements.

  • Assess existing records management programs, systems, and configurations to identify opportunities for improvement or reuse.

  • Develop classification schemes, retention schedules, cut-off rules, and disposition processes aligned with legislative and client requirements.

  • Configure Laserfiche Cloud Records Management functionality, including repositories, metadata templates, security models, retention rules, and automation.

  • Translate records governance requirements into practical system configurations and processes.

  • Create and maintain technical specifications, governance documentation, and configuration maps.

  • Demonstrate proposed solutions to stakeholders to validate the approach and confirm requirements are being met.

  • Support migrations from legacy or on-premises systems into Laserfiche Cloud while maintaining metadata and retention requirements.

  • Configure and test security settings, permissions, workflows, business processes, and integrations.

  • Test records management configurations, retention automation, cut-off rules, metadata, security, and classification structures before client acceptance.

  • Review migration results for accuracy, completeness, and correct application of retention schedules.

  • Identify and resolve configuration, workflow, migration, or governance issues.

  • Provide ongoing client support, troubleshooting, adjustments, and optimisation following implementation.

  • Document solution configurations, workflows, processes, testing outcomes, and resolutions.

  • Support the development of client training materials, demonstrations, screen recordings, information sheets, and other resources.

  • Stay current with records management legislation, industry best practices, and developments within Laserfiche.

You’ll Love This Role If You…

  • Believe records management should make information easier to govern and use, not simply satisfy a compliance requirement.

  • Enjoy translating legislation, policies, and governance requirements into practical processes and system configurations.

  • Naturally think about how information should be classified, retained, secured, accessed, and ultimately disposed of.

  • Enjoy solving problems that sit somewhere between governance, process, and technology.

  • Take ownership of finding the right solution rather than simply configuring what you are told.

  • Have strong attention to detail and notice when metadata, permissions, retention rules, or configurations don’t quite make sense.

  • Enjoy working directly with clients to understand what they are trying to achieve.

  • Can explain technical or records management concepts clearly to people with different levels of expertise.

  • Are comfortable troubleshooting when a configuration or process doesn’t behave as expected.

  • Can manage multiple client priorities without losing track of detail or commitments.

  • Enjoy collaborating with project managers, Customer Success teams, developers, training teams, and other specialists.

  • Look for ways to improve how things are done rather than accepting that’s how we’ve always done it.

  • Enjoy working in a growing organisation where our solutions and ways of working continue to evolve.

Experience That Will Help You Succeed

We’re interested in people who understand records management in practice and can translate that knowledge into effective technology solutions.

Experience in the following areas will help:

  • Records and Information Management, Municipal Records Administration, or a related discipline.

  • Records management within a municipal, government, or public‑sector environment.

  • Developing or administering classification schemes, retention schedules, cut‑off rules, and disposition processes.

  • Understanding access, privacy, and records management legislation relevant to municipal environments, including frameworks such as FOIP and MFIPPA.

  • Configuring and supporting Laserfiche Cloud solutions.

  • Laserfiche Records Management functionality, including retention and cut‑off configuration.

  • Creating and managing metadata templates and document structures.

  • Workflow automation and business process configuration.

  • Security models, permissions, and access configuration.

  • Data or document migrations from legacy or on‑premises environments.

  • Integrations with third‑party systems using APIs or connectors.

  • Document lifecycle management, metadata management, and version control.

  • Troubleshooting technical and configuration issues.

  • Working directly with clients to gather requirements and present solutions.

  • Managing multiple client projects or priorities simultaneously.

Formal education in Records and Information Management, Municipal Records Administration, or a related field is considered an advantage, but equivalent practical records management experience is equally valuable.
