Chief Metallurgist - Precious Metals

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished and strategic Chief Metallurgist to lead their precious metals processing initiatives, operating remotely. This senior role requires extensive expertise in hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy to drive innovation, optimize recovery processes, and ensure the efficient production of gold, silver, and other precious metals. You will be instrumental in setting the metallurgical strategy, overseeing complex process improvements, and mentoring a team of metallurgists and technicians. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned expert to exert significant influence on metallurgical outcomes and technological advancements from a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's metallurgical strategy for precious metal recovery, focusing on maximizing yield and efficiency.
• Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of metallurgical processes, including leaching, refining, and smelting.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to metallurgical teams and site operations.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of process data to identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, and technological innovation.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations related to metallurgical operations.
• Lead research and development projects to explore new metallurgical techniques and improve existing processes.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in metallurgical processing, with a strong specialization in precious metals (gold, silver).
• Demonstrated expertise in both hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy applied to precious metals.
• Proven track record in process design, optimization, and troubleshooting of large-scale metallurgical plants.
• Experience with statistical analysis, process simulation software, and R&D project management.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
