Health and Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and proactive Health and Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment across their construction sites in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. This role is vital for implementing and maintaining health and safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. You will be instrumental in fostering a safety-first culture among all site personnel, investigating incidents, and recommending preventative measures. The ideal candidate is committed to workplace safety and possesses excellent communication and training skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the site-specific Health and Safety plan.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and non-compliance.
• Investigate all site accidents and incidents, preparing detailed reports and corrective action plans.
• Deliver health and safety training to all site personnel, including toolbox talks and inductions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant OHS Act regulations and construction industry standards.
• Maintain health and safety records and documentation.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent qualification.
• Registered as a Safety Officer with SAIOSH or a relevant professional body.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry.
• Knowledge of OHS Act, construction regulations, and risk assessment techniques.
• Strong communication, reporting, and training skills.
