Petroleum Geologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Petroleum Geologist to join their exploration and development team in Polokwane. This position requires a deep understanding of subsurface geology and the ability to identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon resources. You will be responsible for analyzing geological data, including seismic surveys, well logs, and core samples, to create detailed geological models and prospect evaluations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a proven ability to contribute to successful exploration campaigns in the challenging oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret geological data from wells, core samples, and geophysical surveys.
• Develop and update subsurface geological models and maps.
• Identify and evaluate drilling targets and potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Collaborate with geophysicists and reservoir engineers on prospect assessment and field development.
• Prepare geological reports and present findings to management and technical teams.
• Assist in the planning and execution of field geological programs.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 5+ years of experience as a Petroleum Geologist, with a focus on exploration or development.
• Proficiency in geological software and data analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of sedimentary basin analysis, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
