About the Role

Our client, a popular sports bar and cafe located in the bustling entertainment district of Port Elizabeth , is seeking a dynamic and creative Head Chef to lead its culinary operations. This role demands a passion for creating delicious, crowd-pleasing dishes suitable for a sports-focused clientele, coupled with strong kitchen management skills. You will be responsible for menu development, kitchen staff supervision, inventory management, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and hygiene. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement innovative and appealing menus that cater to a sports bar environment, including specials and seasonal offerings.
• Oversee all daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and quality control, ensuring consistency and high standards.
• Manage, train, and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
• Control food costs through effective inventory management, ordering, waste reduction, and portion control.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations in the kitchen, maintaining impeccable cleanliness standards.
• Collaborate with management on event planning and catering for special functions and game days.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef, preferably in a high-volume casual dining or sports bar setting.
• Strong culinary background with expertise in various cooking techniques and international cuisine.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Demonstrated ability in menu engineering, costing, and inventory management.
• Proficiency in food safety standards and HACCP principles.
• Creative flair and passion for developing exciting and satisfying dishes for a diverse customer base.
