Geotechnical Engineer - Foundation Design Specialist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer with specialized expertise in foundation design to join their expanding operations in Durban . This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and suitability of ground conditions for a wide array of construction projects, from commercial developments to critical infrastructure. You will be responsible for conducting in-depth site investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics, and providing expert recommendations for foundation systems. Key Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise geotechnical investigations , including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock properties using laboratory test results and field data to determine engineering characteristics.
• Design appropriate foundation systems (e.g., shallow foundations, deep foundations, retaining walls) for various project types and ground conditions.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including findings, analyses, and recommendations for clients and design teams.
• Provide technical support and site supervision during foundation construction phases.
• Assess and mitigate geotechnical risks associated with construction projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations and foundation design.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software packages for analysis and modeling (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio).
• Experience with various foundation types and construction methods.
