Lead Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to guide their operations in the Stellenbosch region. This role is essential for overseeing the geotechnical aspects of various infrastructure and energy projects, ensuring stability, safety, and structural integrity. You will lead a team of geotechnical specialists, manage site investigations, conduct complex analyses, and provide expert recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical investigations, including site assessments, soil borings, and in-situ testing.
• Perform complex geotechnical analyses such as foundation design, slope stability analysis, seismic hazard assessment, and settlement predictions.
• Develop detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and design recommendations for project stakeholders.
• Oversee the work of junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and construction methods to ensure safety and performance.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnics.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong portfolio of diverse projects.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC).
• Demonstrated experience in managing project teams and budgets.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
