Senior Mining Engineer - Planning and Design

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mining Engineer specializing in planning and design to join their operations in Welkom . This role is integral to the strategic development of the mine, focusing on optimizing extraction methods, designing mine layouts, and ensuring long-term operational viability. You will work closely with operational teams, geologists, and management to translate geological data into practical, safe, and efficient mining plans. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to operational excellence within the mining industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize long-term and short-term mine plans, considering geological, technical, and economic factors.
• Design mine layouts, including access routes, stopes, and ventilation systems, for open-pit or underground operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects and mine expansions.
• Apply advanced mine planning software to model and simulate mining operations.
• Ensure mine designs comply with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with operational engineers to implement plans and provide technical support.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies to improve mining efficiency and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine planning and design.
• Proven expertise in open-pit or underground mine design principles and practices.
• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, or similar.
• Strong understanding of mine economics, rock mechanics, and ventilation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
