Vineyard Operations Assistant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Vineyard Operations Assistant to support the daily management of their vineyards in the picturesque Paarl wine region. This role involves assisting with all aspects of viticulture, from planting and pruning to harvesting and pest management, ensuring the highest quality grape production. You will work closely with the vineyard manager, contributing to the sustainable and efficient operation of the estate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about winemaking and agriculture to gain practical experience in a renowned wine-producing area, working amidst beautiful landscapes and contributing to the creation of fine wines.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with all vineyard tasks, including pruning, tying, canopy management, and irrigation.
• Participate in grape harvesting operations, ensuring quality and efficiency.
• Monitor vineyard health, identifying and reporting pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Operate and maintain vineyard machinery and equipment safely.
• Assist with record-keeping related to vineyard activities, treatments, and yields.
• Support the vineyard manager in implementing sustainable farming practices.
• Contribute to the overall cleanliness and organization of the vineyard and related facilities.

Requirements

• Previous experience in viticulture or agriculture is highly desirable.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Basic understanding of plant science and pest management principles.
• Ability to operate basic farm machinery and tools.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
• A passion for wine and the winemaking process.
