Senior Environmental Scientist - Contaminated Site Remediation

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to lead projects focused on Contaminated Site Remediation in the Nelspruit region. This role is crucial for assessing environmental risks, developing effective remediation strategies, and managing clean-up operations for contaminated land and water resources. You will work closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams to ensure successful project outcomes that protect human health and the environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, remediation technologies, and project management, contributing to sustainable environmental solutions in Nelspruit.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive site assessments, including soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling and analysis.
• Develop and implement effective remediation strategies for contaminated sites using various technologies (e.g., soil vapor extraction, bioremediation, pump-and-treat).
• Manage environmental projects from conception through to completion, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, proposals, and regulatory permit applications.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, clients, and stakeholders to facilitate project approvals and community engagement.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior environmental staff.

Requirements

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related environmental field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a strong focus on contaminated site assessment and remediation.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, site investigation techniques, and remediation technologies.
• Proven project management skills, including budget and schedule control.
• Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS applications.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
