Commis Chef

Minimum Requirements

• Matric Certificate (Grade 12).
• Recognised Culinary qualification is essential.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a professional kitchen.
• Previous Commis Chef experience in a hotel, restaurant or high-volume kitchen is preferred.
• Experience within a busy 4-star or 5-star hotel is advantageous.
• Good knowledge of food preparation, basic cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards.
• Ability to follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards accurately.
• Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen, including shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Professional grooming and a disciplined approach to work.
• South African ID or valid work permit.
• Fully updated CV.

What Youll Be Doing

• Assisting with food preparation and cooking across kitchen sections.
• Preparing mise en place and supporting senior chefs during service.
• Following recipes, portion controls and presentation standards consistently.
• Maintaining clean, organised workstations and following food safety and HACCP procedures.
• Assisting with stock rotation, correct storage and minimising food waste.
• Working closely with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service.
• Developing your culinary skills through exposure to different sections and techniques.
