About this Role

The Financial Modelling & Structuring Specialist position at DBSA is a mid-to-senior level role that requires substantial expertise in financial analysis, project structuring, and innovative financing solutions. This role is central to DBSA’s mission of supporting high-impact development projects across the Southern African region. The specialist will provide expert financial modelling and structuring advisory support for investment projects, with a specific focus on designing innovative financing solutions that enable project financial closure. The role encompasses comprehensive financial analysis, risk assessment, and the development of tailored financing structures that align with both project requirements and DBSA’s development objectives. The specialist will work with complex financial models, conduct feasibility analysis, and provide strategic recommendations to guide investment decisions. This position requires collaboration across multiple departments and with external stakeholders including government agencies, private sector partners, and other development finance institutions. The specialist will support projects from initial concept through to financial closure, ensuring that financing structures are optimized for development impact while maintaining acceptable risk profiles and commercial viability.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complex financial models for infrastructure and development projects
• Design innovative financing structures and solutions tailored to specific project requirements
• Provide expert advisory support on project financial viability and structuring options
• Conduct comprehensive financial analysis including cash flow projections, sensitivity analysis, and scenario modeling
• Support projects through to financial closure by ensuring appropriate financing structures are in place
• Evaluate project risks and develop mitigation strategies within financing frameworks
• Collaborate with project teams, government stakeholders, and development partners to structure financing solutions
• Prepare financial documentation and advise on terms and conditions for financing agreements
• Assess the developmental impact and sustainability of proposed financing structures
• Contribute to DBSA’s broader development objectives through strategic project structuring

Requirements

• Mid to senior level experience in financial modelling and project structuring
• Strong expertise in financial analysis and financial modeling software
• Demonstrated experience in infrastructure finance or development finance
• Knowledge of project finance structures and principles
• Proficiency in designing complex financing solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Understanding of development finance principles and impact assessment
• Professional qualification in finance, accounting, or related field (preferred)
• Experience working with multilateral or bilateral development institutions (preferred)
