Senior Optical Network Engineer

Our client is looking for a skilled Optical Network Engineer to enhance their advanced fibre optic infrastructure team in Randburg. This role is critical for the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-performance optical networks, ensuring seamless data transmission and connectivity. You will work with cutting-edge fibre optic technologies, troubleshoot complex network issues, and contribute to the expansion of their network footprint. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of optical networking principles and a commitment to operational excellence in the dynamic Gauteng telecommunications landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy fibre optic networks, including DWDM, OTN, and GPON technologies.
• Monitor optical network performance, proactively identifying and resolving faults and performance degradation.
• Conduct optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) testing and fault localization.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, including schematics, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with planning and deployment teams to ensure successful network rollouts and upgrades.
• Stay current with advancements in optical networking technology and recommend improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in optical network engineering.
• Proficiency with optical network equipment from major vendors (e.g., Nokia, Ciena, Cisco).
• Strong understanding of optical transmission principles, wavelengths, and fibre types.
• Experience with fibre optic testing equipment and methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently.
