Agricultural Extension Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive Agricultural Extension Officer to provide vital support and guidance to farmers in the Upington region. This role involves disseminating knowledge about modern farming techniques, best practices, and new technologies to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. The Extension Officer will act as a liaison between agricultural research institutions and the farming community, facilitating knowledge transfer and problem-solving. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about agriculture and community development to make a tangible difference in the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field visits to farms to assess needs and provide technical advice on crop cultivation, soil management, and pest control.
• Organize and conduct workshops, training sessions, and field days for farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
• Disseminate information on new agricultural technologies, research findings, and government support programs.
• Assist farmers in adopting sustainable farming practices and improving resource management.
• Facilitate farmer groups and cooperatives to enhance collaboration and market access.
• Collect data on local farming challenges and report back to research and development teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in agricultural extension services or community-based agricultural support.
• Good understanding of local agricultural practices and challenges in the Northern Cape region.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and build strong relationships with the farming community.
