Solar Panel Installation Supervisor
About the Role
Our client, a rapidly growing renewable energy company, is seeking a motivated and experienced Solar Panel Installation Supervisor to lead installation teams in the Mossel Bay, Western Cape region. This role involves a hybrid approach, requiring regular on-site supervision of solar panel installations on residential and commercial properties, alongside administrative tasks and planning from a home office or company hub. You will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality installations, managing team performance, and adhering to all relevant building codes and electrical standards. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, electrical work, safety protocols, and has proven leadership skills. A hands-on attitude and the ability to motivate and guide a team are essential for success in this role. Your work will directly contribute to the expansion of clean energy solutions in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct field installation crews during the mounting and wiring of solar panels and associated equipment.
- Ensure all installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, meeting company and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct pre-installation site assessments and post-installation inspections.
- Manage daily site operations, including material staging, equipment deployment, and crew coordination.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to installation teams as needed.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, including working at heights and with electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any installation-related issues that arise on-site.
- Maintain accurate site records, including installation progress reports, material usage, and safety checks.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders regarding installation status.
- Train new team members on installation procedures and safety best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar PV installations or a related field (e.g., electrical, roofing).
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Solid understanding of solar panel technology, mounting systems, inverters, and electrical wiring for PV systems.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, electrical codes (e.g., SANS), and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret installation manuals, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and a reliable means of transport.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned region and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Electrical trade certification or relevant solar installation accreditation is a significant advantage.
