Senior Metallurgist - Process Optimization

About the Role

Our client, a leading name in the mineral processing and mining industry , is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Metallurgist to drive process optimization initiatives. This role is based in the vibrant region of Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA . The Senior Metallurgist will be instrumental in improving recovery rates, enhancing process efficiency, and ensuring the consistent quality of mineral concentrates. This position requires a deep understanding of various metallurgical processes, advanced analytical techniques, and a proven ability to troubleshoot complex operational challenges. We are looking for a forward-thinking metallurgist who can contribute to the sustainable and profitable extraction of valuable minerals. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct metallurgical test work and plant trials to optimize process parameters.
• Analyze plant data to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas for improvement in mineral recovery and efficiency.
• Develop and implement strategies for troubleshooting metallurgical issues and improving operational stability.
• Provide expert technical guidance and support to plant operations and engineering teams.
• Monitor and control key process variables to ensure product quality meets specifications.
• Conduct economic evaluations of proposed process changes and new technologies.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in metallurgical science and technology.
• Prepare detailed metallurgical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards in all metallurgical activities.
• Mentor junior metallurgists and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral processing and metallurgy, preferably within base metals or precious metals mining .
• Demonstrated expertise in hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, or flotation processes.
• Proven experience with process simulation and modelling software.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex metallurgical data.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a hands‑on approach to operational challenges.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in project management and leading technical teams is a plus.
• A commitment to safety and environmental best practices.
• Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) methodologies.
