Remote Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to join their team on a fully remote basis, focusing on environmental compliance within their mining operations. This role is critical for ensuring that all mining activities adhere to stringent environmental regulations and company sustainability standards. You will be responsible for developing and implementing environmental management plans, monitoring environmental impacts, and coordinating with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance across various sites, including those near Klerksdorp . Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage environmental impact assessments and management plans for mining projects.
• Monitor environmental parameters (air, water, soil, biodiversity) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
• Prepare environmental reports, permit applications, and regulatory submissions for government agencies.
• Conduct environmental audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure best practices.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices, mitigation measures, and sustainability initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in environmental management, particularly within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes (e.g., NEMA, MPRDA).
• Experience in environmental monitoring, impact assessment, and reporting.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
