Bilingual Childcare Educator (English/Afrikaans)

About the Role

Our client, a community-focused daycare center in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape , is looking for a vibrant and bilingual Childcare Educator proficient in both English and Afrikaans. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about early childhood development and committed to fostering a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment for young children. The educator will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging activities that stimulate cognitive, social, and physical development. Fluency in both English and Afrikaans is essential for effective communication with a diverse group of children and their families, as well as for facilitating bilingual learning experiences. The successful candidate will work closely with a dedicated team, contributing to the center’s mission of providing high-quality childcare and education. This part-time position offers flexibility while providing a rewarding career in early childhood education within the friendly atmosphere of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement age-appropriate educational programs and activities in both English and Afrikaans.
• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
• Foster a positive, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment.
• Assist children with daily routines, including feeding, toileting, and rest periods.
• Observe and document children's progress, communicating effectively with parents/guardians.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive approach to childcare and education.
• Encourage positive social interaction and emotional development among children.
• Organize and lead creative activities such as art, music, and storytelling.
• Ensure adherence to all center policies and health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Early Childhood Development or Childcare.
• Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans (written and spoken).
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a childcare setting.
• Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage children and create a positive learning atmosphere.
• Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
• First Aid and CPR certification is required.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work specified part-time hours.
• Provide a clean criminal record check and excellent references.
